Aquí vamos a ver unas preguntas y negaciones.

Las preguntas y las negaciones en comparativo y superlativo siguen las mismas reglas de los tiempos verbales que cualquier otra frase.

Como hablamos de los adjetivos, no cambian la forma del verbo… usamos pasado, presente o futuro como siempre, y el adjetivo está ahí.

Presente simple: I’m older than you. (Soy mayor que tú.)

Pasado simple: He lived there longer than me. (Vivía allí más tiempo que yo.)

Presente perfecto continuo: He’s been working there longer than Pedro. (Lleva trabajando ahí más que Pedro.)

Así tenemos unos ejemplos más de comparativos y superlativos en inglés, en varios tiempos verbales: presente simple, pasado simple y presente perfecto.

Presente simple y el comparativo en inglés

Healthier es la forma comparativa de healthy, y así se traduce por “más sano”.

(+) Tea is healthier than juice. 

(-)  Pepsi isn’t healthier than juice.

(?) Is tea healthier than juice?

(?) Which is healthier: tea or juice?

Pasado simple y el comparativo en inglés

Thinner es la forma comparativa de thin, así sería “más delgado”.

(+) She was much thinner when she was younger.

(-)  She wasn’t much thinner when she was younger.

(?) Was she thinner when she was younger?

(?) How much thinner was she when she was younger?

Presente perfecto y el superlativo

Aquí usamos varios superlativos: the most famous (la más famosa) the best (el mejor),  the handsomest (el más guapo) y the latest (el último).

(-)  My cousin Pepe has never been the fastest runner in school.

(?) Have you seen the latest Woody Allen film?

(?) Who has had the best results so far?

(-) She wasn’t the smartest kid in class, but she was the best artist.

Texto con comparativo y superlativo en inglés

My city is called Phoenix, and it’s in the state of Arizona.

It isn’t the biggest city in the USA, and it isn’t one of the most cosmopolitan, but it is definitely one of the hottest.

It’s cheaper than a lot of other cities: probably the most expensive places in the US are New York and San Francisco.

What Phoenix does have is one of the fastest growth rates of any city in the US. It’s able to grow faster than other cities because of all the construction, plus there’s a lot of space in the desert.

The biggest state in the US is Alaska, and the most populous is California. Alaska is much bigger than California, but the population is much smaller.

California is a little bit smaller than Spain, and Texas is a little bit bigger. Alaska is more than 3 times bigger than Spain! But of course, Spain has a larger population than any US state.
